Email is no exception to the trend. Over the last 25 years, fake emails have exploded. They are now their own category of social engineering, and the term "phishing" is used as a ball-park term to cover all of these scams.
Emails supposedly from your bank, or from Paypal, ask for your banking account numbers. Nigerian princesses ask for your help to recover their fortunes. A suspicious email seems to be coming from your best friend. The Federal Government wants a copy of your W-2. There is a deluge of fake stuff coming across your email account!
